The Start to AMA VIDA

The Start to AMA VIDA

I am so excited to launch AMA VIDA! It’s been a dream of mine to own a flower shop ever since I was graduating college. A couple of months before I graduated from The University of Arizona, I sent a business proposal to my aunt and dad letting them know I would be moving to Laguna Beach, CA after graduation to open the cutest little flower and home décor shop right on the water... The response I received was, “Do you know what the shelf life of a flower is?”  I can only imagine the expression on my dad and aunts face when they received that email. I was nowhere near ready to start my own business and didn’t have a dollar to my name. So, how I thought I was going to get to Laguna is beyond me. I guess I’ve always been a dreamer...

After graduation I had no idea what I was going to do with my life and my friend Kelley invited me to join her in Telluride for a ski season. Of course, I said heck yes and got a couple of part time jobs and skied as much as I could. It was such a cool experience and hope my daughter will be able to do the same one day before entering the corporate world.

After Telluride, the same aunt who I told I was moving to Laguna persuaded me to do a business boot camp at Vanderbilt University. Reflecting back on this, I think she knew exactly what she was doing here. I really needed the skills I was taught there. Shortly after the course I got a job in corporate America, where I worked in the same field for 9 years and learned a lot. I got promoted, switched companies, moved across the country, and honestly really enjoyed it all. I loved my customers and loved what I did but at the same time I knew there was something missing. My dream from so many years ago kept reappearing. I needed a way to share my creative outlet and at the same time, I had a pull to get back to my Latin roots. AMA VIDA was born in 2021. A vision of everything I love, all things floral and curated textiles sourced from my ancestral homelands of Colombia and Venezuela.
